9-11 two election cycles later
Well here we are almost one full year since my last post. We are not rapidly enough approaching our next election and the end of a seemingly terminal election season. One thing that I think has to be acknowledged regardless of your politics is that no matter the outcome this will be an historic election. We will have either an African American president or a female vice president. I think it a bit of political genius on McCain's part (relax liberals I said political) to select Palin ans his vice. Thereby ensuring the election will be historic. For my part I maintain little faith in either campaign. Obama for all his talk of change prostituted himself to the Chicago political elite to get where he is (post turtle)and McCain as much as I admire and respect his service seems constrained by his political base. Since when did the republican party, the party of get government out of my way become the party of government regulation of morality and who the hell appointed them. Ayn Rand would be spinning!
Seven years after 9/11/2001 we are winning in Iraq although to what end remains to be seen as the Iraqis seem incapable of leading a hill of ants out of a fire with a jar of honey. How hard can it be to build a sewage treatment plant with 8o billion on the books. Which equates to something like a years living wage for every man woman and child in the country? Afghanistan is a fight a good old fashioned street fight. If I was a cynic I would conclude that its Obama's lack of command of the operational level of war that lead him to say that we should be focusing in Afghanistan, never mind that its the success of the surge in Iraq that allows the operational room for maneuver to surge (Obama's words int Afghanistan) and shows his belief that these are two regional conflicts and not differing theatres of the same conflict. Like all powers we are constrained by time space money and assets. Regardless of how we got there, when the heat was on Iraq that theatre had to be stabilized to allow the inevitable and coming surge into Afghanistan. This is not dissimilar to the decision to hold against Japan while defeating Germany.
